"Leading Skillfully in Uncertainty" - OLPD Initiates Scottish Public Sector Leadership Symposium

Leadership Symposium

OLPD had approached significant partners to host and share keynotes in a forum to bring together Scottish Public Sector stakeholders to address the challenges of leadership in the current environment. The symposium, was held at the historic Hamilton Town House, and explored ways forward in leadership development that can prepare both formal and informal leaders to address unsustainability challenges. The need for ways to support our leadership and to learn with and from one another was a key agenda. How to utilise techology to assist this was the focus of Neil Ballantyne's (IRISS) after lunch keynote. The personal and organisational development challenges were explored by Robin Burgess (OLPD) and Malcolm Young (Malcolm Young Associates). Participants experimented with different communication modes that deepened authentic dialogue. They recognised the importance of listening to what we don't wish to hear; of taking responsibility on the basis of: "We are the 'they'"; and of the importance of skill in framing questions to address "Wicked" (Grint) problems. ("The question is the answer").
