Leadership Programme for Orkney Partnership draws participant response: "I came sceptical and leave inspired".

Since Robin Burgess and Malcolm Young met with participants for the Introductory Day on 10th June, momentum has built towards the culmination of the programme in September, 2010. Strongly positive expectation and determination to utilise this significant opportunity were encapsulated in the participant's comment: "I came sceptical and leave inspired". Robin, Malcolm and Lesley Wilson, OLPD Associates, emerged from 17 tenders to provide this Pilot Leadership Programme for a partnership of NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council. The Steering Group includes the NHS Education Service, the Improvement Service and the Remote and Rural Health Education Alliance. Their support includes web space from NES and an evaluation to test application in other Peripheral, Remote and Rural areas in Scotland in a sustainable way. NHS Shetland and partners and NHS Western Isles are both finalising arrangements for their own programmes with NES to be provided by OLPD in the Spring/ Summer of 2011.

This programme is a partnership venture for NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council. It is supported by NES (NHS Education for Scotland), IS (Improvement Service) and RRHEAL (Remote and Rural Health Education Alliance) who are represented on the Stakeholder Group which also selected OLPD. Feedback on OLPD's bid was that it was "head and shoulders above the competition".

The programme uses a blended learning approach that includes face to face, action learning, online and project work. It also utilises the IDI 360  Behavioural Leadership Styles profiling, optional mentoring and a conference finale with stakeholders. Accredited by the Open University (see seperate item) the programme provides participants with the potential for Post Graduate credit.
