OLPD scoops OD Award for 2008

OLPD designed and ran a unique, high impact Leadership Programme for 80 Managers and Staff who provide Residential Care for young people (see Evaluation below). The Programme was recognised with the North Lanarkshire Council Organisational Development Award for 2008. Robin Burgess and David Carver were invited to share the programme with the Scottish Institute of Child Care (SIRCC) Staff Conference 2009. On 11th June, 2009, they were joined by Norma Laurie, Linda Smith and Ashley Parr, all participants on the programme, to present a workshop at the SIRCC National Conference at the Crieff Hydro. The energy, fun and specialness of the programme was recaptured with five complementary perspectives on what worked so well to interested colleagues from across residential childcare in Scotland and the UK. North Lanarkshire Council is now investing in sustainable Action Learning Facilitator Training by OLPD, in order to build on the success of the "All Together" Programme.

A summary evaluation of this Leadership Programme is available, completed July 2009.

Celebration day for North Lanarkshire Council's Social Work staff

Last Updated Wednesday, 03 September 2008

"All Together Better", North Lanarkshire Council's leadership development programme for residential child care staff within Social Work Services, finished on 25 June 2008 with a Celebration Day for participants, their managers and partner agencies.

Robin Burgess, Independent Training Consultant, (Organisation, Leadership and People Development) was comissioned by North Lanarkshire Council to develop and create a personal and team development programme that would contribute to the Council's aspirations for improved outcomes for children and young people.

Over a period of nine months, in a unique programme, 80 residential child care workers took part in input days, action learning sets and individual project work.

The programme went beyong the normal core training delivery for staff in that it was a personal/professional development programme for the service as a whole. It required personal commitment beyond that which would normally be required of both managers and staff. For many, it was a journey of discovery, with many hidden strengths and talents being discovered as people tapped into their own leadership potential.

Feedback about the programme and the celebration event has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants describing the impact as "Life changing".

On 4th December, 2008 the Programme was awarded the North Lanarkshire Council Organisational Development Award for 2008.
